The Amazon Remodel Finds I Actually Use (and Reach for Every Single Day)
When you're in the middle of a remodel, everyone wants to talk about the pretty things. The tile. The lighting. The hardware you agonized over for three weeks. And I love all of that. It's the fun part, and it's most of what you see on my page.
But renovation #4 has taught me something I didn't fully appreciate the first time around. Some of the most useful things during a remodel aren't the beautiful things you're choosing for the house. They're the little things that keep the project organized, make site visits easier, and save you from saying, "I know I wrote that measurement down somewhere."
These are the Amazon finds I actually use while we're renovating our home. Not a wish list. The things I find myself reaching for again and again.
01. The Laser Measure
I reach for this constantly.
If I could only keep one thing on this list, it would be this. When you're measuring rooms, walls, openings, and furniture placement over and over (and you will be, trust me), a Bosch Blaze laser measure is so much faster than fighting with a tape measure. No second person holding the other end. No tape buckling halfway across the room. Point, click, and write it down.
It earns its keep the day you're standing in a framed-out room trying to decide if a sofa will fit, or checking whether that rug is really going to clear the island.
02. The Label Maker
Boring until you definitely need it.
I will be the first to admit a label maker is not exciting. But a DYMO LetraTag label maker has saved me more than once. I use it for tile samples, paint colors, cabinet selections, hardware, boxes, and anything else that starts accumulating during a renovation. And things accumulate fast.
When there are four almost-identical white paint chips on the counter and one of them is the one you already approved, you'll understand. Little systems make a big project feel so much less chaotic.
03. The Portable Charger
Always in my bag.
Between photos, videos, texts, measurements, inspiration photos, and contractor calls, my phone gets used constantly when I'm at the house. And a house under construction is not exactly full of convenient outlets. I keep a slim portable charger with built-in cables in my bag at all times, so I never need to remember a separate cord.
It's one of those things I simply don't want to be without.
04. The Project Binder
Write. Everything. Down.
Measurements. Questions. Decisions. Changes. Things you need to order. Things you need to ask again. It all goes in a clipboard project binder with a notepad, pocket dividers, and a zip pouch for small samples.
Here is the one piece of advice I'd give anyone starting a remodel: do not trust yourself to remember it later. You won't. None of us do. The binder also means that when a contractor asks what you decided about the outlet by the vanity, the answer is right there in your hand instead of buried in a text thread from six weeks ago.
05. The Shoe Cover Dispenser
Not glamorous. Incredibly useful.
This one surprised me. Once your finished flooring starts going in, contractors, installers, and deliveries are still coming through the house every single day. A hands-free shoe cover dispenser lets anyone step in, cover their shoes, and walk on through without anyone having to ask.
I keep it near the door. After all the time and thought that went into choosing those floors, protecting them is worth it.
06. The Selection Organizer
Because the selections multiply FAST.
Paint. Fabric. Wallpaper. Tile. Hardware. Receipts. Product information. If you've ever tried to keep all of that in a tote bag, you know how it ends. I use a portable file organizer case with a handle and accordion files, so every selection travels together.
The real reason I love it is less about tidiness and more about decisions. Keeping everything together makes it much easier to compare selections side by side instead of making decisions in isolation. That fabric looks completely different next to the actual tile than it does in your memory of the tile.
The Part No One Posts About
None of these will end up in a reveal photo. But they're a big part of why the reveal happens without a dozen "wait, which one did we pick?" moments along the way. A remodel is a thousand small decisions, and having a place to put each one makes the whole thing feel calmer.
If you're still in the planning stage, start with the decisions before you start with the tools. I put everything we've learned through four renovations into my free 36-page Remodel & Renovation Checklist. Get the free checklist here.
